Scariest Quote of the Day
Matthew Yglesias is in Amsterdam (don’t ask me why) and discovers to his horror that
…the TMobile hotspot appears to be emanating from the McDonalds’ across the street…
Be afwaid. Be vewwy afwaid.
And Finally…
Affald, originally uploaded by jacobchristensen.
I’ve managed to post all of my Amsterdam pictures. It only took about a month to clear the desk (or rather the iPhoto collection).
And Yet More Amsterdam
I would just like to note that I have bothered Flickr with yet another batch of photos from Amsterdam. No theme this time – just impressions from the streets and canals.
And there’s more to come…
And Yet More Amsterdam
Today, we’re off to Jordaan. That’s the old working-class neighbourhood to the west of the Grachtengordel.
The photo shows a monument celebrating some famous Dutch singers and musicians from the Jordaan, first and foremost Johnny Jordaan (real name: Johannes Hendricus van Musscher) and Tante Leen (Helena Kok-Polder)
But wait, there is more: Johnny Jordaan was the cousin of Carel Verbrugge, aka Willy Alberti and Alberti’s daughter Willeke, an entertainer in her own right, was married to … drum-roll … Søren Lerby in the 1980s. Through an earlier marriage, Willeke was also linked to TV-magnate John de Mol of Endemol and BigBrother-fame.
More Amsterdam
Amsterdam: de Hortus, originally uploaded by jacobchristensen.
This time a set of photos from de Hortus, i.e. the Botanical Gardens.
Now I’ve only got something like 350 photos to fix.
That’ll teach me to buy a 512KB memory card.
Shameless Self-promotion
Amsterdam: Java Eiland, originally uploaded by jacobchristensen.
I’ve posted some a selection rather a lot of photos from KNSM/Java Eiland in Amsterdam on my Flickr page. More from Amsterdam to come.
Click on the photo to get there.
Hey, Kid, Leave the Teachers Alone
It’s not just Sweden and Denmark which are short of school teachers: It’s the same story in the Netherlands.
Dutch Courage
Ingrid Robeyns discusses the tasks awaiting the new Dutch Minister of Education over at Crooked Timber. Does this sound slightly familiar?(I posted a long comment over there so any discussions are better redirected to CT).
