Because I Desperately Needed Another Remote Control
Okay, I can get cable TV in my apartment. The problem is that I either have to fill out an incomprehensible form (how do you give your customer number when you are not a customer) or call an office in a remote part of Odense between half past nine in the morning and 9.30 am.
Oh well, I thought: Why not try and see if I could get DTT1 to work and then handle the cable problem later?
The only problem here is that I had to buy an updated aereal and a set-top box – otherwise a set-top box for open access tv is fairly cheap – which meant more cables and an extra remote control and I still wouldn’t be able to record other programmes on my DVR.
The cashier at the (almost) local electronics store – belive me: As shopping malls go, Rosengårdscentret is massive! – looked slightly concerned and to be honest set-up doesn’t exactly look graceful with the aereal balancing on the tv. But, surprise, surprise: It works and I was able to watch DR1, DR2 and TV2 as well as DR’s internet-based news channel in a reasonable quality. When digital tv signals fail, they do in a different way than analouge signals – basically the entire picture freezes or the shound fails.
Four TV channels – it’s almost like 1984!
My next project: Buy a bicycle.
- For the rest of us: DTT means Digital Terrestial Television [↩]
