Vetting

without comments

Never mind the Palin specifics, but Robert Reich’s description of his vetting by Clinton ops raises the interesting question of differences in the recruitment of Danish and Swedish cabinet members compared with their U.S. counterparts.

Danish and Swedish cabinets are much smaller and ministers are generally personally known by the prime minister (or relevant party leader), but there have been cases in both countries where newly appointed ministers have been forced out of office fairly quickly because of personal irregularities. On the other hand, the Danish and Swedish systems are optimised for speed, while the U.S. system (at least in the sanitised version we present to students) is optimised for checks.
