Not exactly a forgotten Gauguin but a local artist’s version of my great-grandfather’s, August Lassen’s (1869-1939), house and bakery in the village of Ullerup, just outside of S�nderborg. The house was demolished in the mid-1970s but I vaguely remember visiting the place as a small boy.

If you should manage to find a copy of S�nderjylland. Historisk Billedbog II, 1864-1920 at a Danish library, it has a photo of artisans from Ullerup, including my great-grandfather wearing an impressive hat and an even more impressive moustache.
