Waking the Dead
Ritzau informs us that the remains of the Centre-Democrats, formed by former Social Democratic MP and long-time mayor of Gladsaxe Erhard Jakobsen in 1973 and unceremoniously dumped by the voters in the 2001 election, want to formally disband the party only to reform in a new shape.
According the party chairman Ben Haddou the idea is to present something which has been carefully prepared to concentrate on the centre of Danish politics.
The best of luck, but I really can’t see it happening.
The Lobster Affair
Is Communism about following the narrow road to salvation or about lobsters for everyone?
It is always difficult to second-guess what Karl Marx would have said but when prominent German leftist MEP Sahra Wagenknecht was photographed at a lobster party in a Strassbourg restaurant by fellow MEP Feleknas Uca her reaction was to send one of her secretaries to borrow Uca’s camera under the pretext that she needed to take some photos but didn’t have a camera available.
Uca was happy to lend Wagenknecht her camera. She was less happy when she got the camera back and discovered that someone had erased all photos with Wagenknecht on them.
Wagenknecht admits eating the lobsters but defends her actions by saying that she didn’t like the way she looked on the photos.
As it is, Sahra Wagenknecht is an interesting character on the German left. She is a leading member of the orthodox Kommunistische Plattform in the German Left Party and she has carefully groomed her appearance to make it strikingly similar to that of Communist icon Rosa Luxemburg.
