Scariest Quote of the Day
Matthew Yglesias is in Amsterdam (don’t ask me why) and discovers to his horror that
…the TMobile hotspot appears to be emanating from the McDonalds’ across the street…
Be afwaid. Be vewwy afwaid.
Attracting the Vote
Traditionally, the Danish People’s Party has enjoyed most support among the 50+ cohorts. The fact for some reason crossed my mind when I read this story from Thailand.
Whacked by the Numbers
I must admit that it is very hard not to be intrigued by the level of support enjoyed (or perhaps suffered) by the Swedish government: The latest poll by Synovate/Temo tells us that the Social Democrats is supported by 46,2 % of voters against 38,7 % for the four governing parties combined.
The only possible parallel I can think of is the complete melt-down suffered by the Danish Social Democrats who saw support slipping from something like 35 to 20 % following the reform of the early retirement benefit in early 1999.
I can’t wait to see the results of the analysis of the 2006 election: Why would voters elect a government, only to abandon it almost immediately and in such a spectacular fashion? Yes, I know that I have tried to explain this earlier this year (look here under Instant Failure), but still: This really merits research.
Update: Here are a couple of Swedish blogs on the subject – Ulf Bjereld, Jonas Morian, Peter Wennblad.

DN’s News Quiz
As my contribution to the weekly office competition was caught by the intertubes (perhaps the implication that I’d managed to beat Svante Ersson for once made it seem too good to be true?), here it is for all the world to see:
6 rätt av 7 möjliga Bra! Snudd på full pott.
Av de 5272 personer som hittills gjort testet, klarade du dig bättre än 4382 (83%).
Spam Woes
I’ve noted that my employer seems to have blacklisted gmail. I still get truckloads of spam delivered to my work e-mail, though, so with a little bad luck all legitimate e-mail will disappear into thin air (or thin cyberspace) while the spam is left.
Blogroll Update
I’ve updated my blogroll with a “Politics: Denmark” category and added some of the Danish politics blogs, I read regularly. My Google Reader – Politics also gives you access to the politics blogs I follow.
The catch is that most Danish politics blogs are written in – well, duh – Danish.
Alliance Politics
It is probably more a symbolic than a substantial demonstration but in today’s opening debate New Alliance decided to support the opposition and not the government in a vote about a general policy statement.
Noted and filed.
Van Gogh x4
It may not be the van Gogh Museum but Ny Carlsberg Glyptoteket (my favourite museum in Copenhagen) now has a nice little collection of the painter’s works. Yet another reason to visit the place.
This Match Is Sooo Not Happening
Tonight the Danish Women’s National Soccer Team is playing against losing to Sweden in an Olympics tournament qualifier in Stockholm.
I’ll have to admit that my knowledge of Danish female soccer players is non-existing so I tried to check the homepages of the major Danish newspapers and the two national TV networks to get some information. It turns out that according to Danish media the match is not happening: There is no information about the match what…so…ever.
Nothing. Nada. Nichts!
You’ll have to go to DBU’s homepage to get a list of the unfortunate eleven facing Sweden.
Denmark lost the first match 2-4 at home and is 0-2 down at half-time.
PS: At least the papers reported the final result. Sweden is the new Spain.
