Women on the Internet
I point you at today’s xkcd.
Safari on Windows
I finally succeeded in getting a copy of Apple’s Safari browser to run on Windows. (Download of Safari 3beta here).
It is – as they say in Jutland – not that bad.
What I would like to have, though, is a button to open new tabs. You can do it with the keyboard, but…

On Top of the World
The weather may be lousy, the international soccer team even worse and the people nasty, but according to Transparency International’s 2007 rankings Denmark is the world’s least corrupt state (along with Finland and New Zealand, but never mind them for now).
The top ten according to TI:
- Denmark (tie with Finland and New Zealand)
- Finland
- New Zealand
- Singapore (tie with Sweden)
- Sweden
- Iceland
- Netherlands (tie with Switzerland)
- Switzerland
- Canada (tie with Norway)
- Norway
Low corruption scores seem to be linked with size (relatively small populations). A commentator at Matthew Yglesias suggests that homogeneity plays a role – but then Switzerland and Canada will be outliers (multilingual countries). Switzerland and Canada are also federations. Religion: You could make the argument that protestantism matters, but Singapore, Canada, Switzerland are not protestant countries.
Historically, all of these countries with the exception of Switzerland and the Netherlands come from the Danish, Swedish or British empires – though the Danes and the Swedes on average may have done a better job at introducing good governance than the Brits.
Update: The true nature of the Dutch included – and I’ve tried to do the Brits a little more justice.

High, High, High
I can understand why you would want to visit Bhutan. I can’t understand why you would want to climb Mount Everest – and I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would want to climb Mount Everest in the nude.
Jimmy Jazz
Tyler Cowen lists Jimmy Jazz as his favourite track on (or off) London Calling. Not a bad choice from an album with more than a fistful of cool songs.
The question now is: Should we expect significant variations in the choice of favourite Clash songs when we compare academic disciplines?

The Muslim and Mormon religions have gained increasing national visibility in recent years. Yet most Americans say they know little or nothing about either religion’s practices, and large majorities say that their own religion is very different from Islam
