Question: If you watch a news story about the latest twists in the hotel heiress saga and your dear old mother comments “Oh, she’s pretty”, how would you respond? :-|

“Kammerater – neh nej”, originally uploaded by Kim Bach.

Thanks to Kim Bach for this report from Ny Alliance’s Constitution Day meeting in Kongens Have. I was in town but cut off anything related to politics or work during most of the week.

Flensborg

Politiken notes that the state government in Schleswig-Holstein (or should that be Slesvig-Holsten) has changed the regulations regarding place names so that street signs in the future can carry both the High German and Plattdeutsch variants.

The state government also notes that the new regulation covers minority langugagues, i.e. Frisian – which was already covered by a special regulation for Kreis Nordfriesland – and Danish. So, signs leading us to Flensborg may not be far away and the Danish government could find itself in – erm – Zugzwang.

(In the earlier post, I was a little unsure about the regulations in Schleswig-Holstein, but the state was as a rule unilingual.)

That could lead to a really fascinating fight in Denmark between Liberals and Conservatives on the one hand and the Danish People’s Party on the other.

Topic for discussion: Is “Slesvig-Holsten” Danish or Platt?
