According to a report on Danmarks Radio’s website, there is one place where they haven’t heard anything about the Muhammad cartoon case.
Yep – it’s the Danish Press Council which haven’t received any complaints from any of the involved parties about the publication of the now-famous cartoons. Asked about this, the spokesman of the Islamic Congregation Ahmed Akkari explains that the congregation didn’t know about this organ.
Well – if they had read Danish news media regularly, or asked a lawyer, they would have known about the board. The Council doesn’t have any formal ways of sanctioning a newspaper but it can force the publication of its decision regarding a complaint.
Correction: The official English name of Pressenævnet is The Press Council, not the Press Board. The Council’s homepage has information in Danish and English about how to file a complaint.
